Midland Valley Trail Extension is about a half mile of asphalt bicycle/pedestrian trail that links Maple Park to Midland Valley Trail 3, a two mile concrete bicycle/pedestrian trail which connects to the Dual River Parks Trail. The trail route is primarily along the abandoned Midland Valley Railroad right-of-way. The right-of-way is 100’ wide and is heavily forested with large trees and related understory vegetation. In some locations, the canopies of the adjacent trees completely cover the trail providing a scenic and shaded ride or walk. The trail gives access to the River Parks trail system for approximately 160 acres of established residential development. The Midland Valley Trail also connects to Lee Elementary School. An on-demand pedestrian crossing signal creates a safe route for children to travel to and from school.
