Wewoka, the headquarters for the Seminole Nation, is famous for its railroad switching yard, the Wewoka Switch, known as a “place to find all lost things”. In the 1980’s Wewoka created a conceptual plan with goals to improve the community as a place to do business, work and live; and to market the community as a retail and commercial center for the area. ADA accessible concrete sidewalks, improved access to businesses while accentuating their main entry, period lighting, trees, planters, benches and litter receptacles provide this area with the aesthetics to attract business and clients to the downtown area. The Wewoka Switch Plaza is located at the north end of the project across the street from the original Wewoka Depot location. The plaza will provide a stage for small outdoor performances, and benches and trees for sitting and relaxing. The plaza also has an informational plaque about the historic depot.
