The streetscape design from First to Fourth Avenue includes curb extensions at each of the major intersections making them compliant with ADA standards. The curb extensions help to slow traffic on busy Highway 70 that runs through downtown. New handicap ramps allow continued access throughout the project area, providing increased pedestrian safety and improved visual aesthetics. The curb extensions are constructed to contain brick pavers and shrub planters, which are irrigated with an automatic sprinkler system. Bronze inlays of the city seal are incorporated into the brick pavers at the intersection of sidewalks. Brick pavers behind the new curbs continue along the sidewalks, unifying the project and providing continuity throughout.
