The Okmulgee State Park boat house was built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. The rustic stone walls of the boat house have fallen into disrepair, but still remain as a monument to the craftsmanship of the era. As a first step toward improving park safety and attracting new visitors, this study was undertaken to evaluate the existing structures and propose an amphitheater design for concerts and lakeside interpretive events with spectacular views of the lake. Through a series of design discussions with State Parks staff, the program and size of the space was discussed. Multiple concepts were generated throughout the design process resulting in the final conceptual design for the area.
