The City’s goal was to improve the traffic flow of State Highway 20 that runs through downtown. The road was widened and the sidewalks were narrowed to add a center turn lane. New 10’ wide sidewalks with a brick accent provide a smooth, level and ADA accessible walking surface. Small curb extensions at street crossings include plantings, irrigation and accessible ramps. Bosque Elm street trees lining Main Street were selected to provide a high canopy so not to obstruct views to the 43 affected store fronts. New tear drop fixtures on period style poles were installed and located to provide the required highway illumination. New cast iron curb inlets, and new curb and gutter improve drainage throughout the project. Improvements in the street parking were made with new asphalt paving and striping.
